The Cochrane Wellness Fair will give community members an opportunity to learn about many of Cochrane's services and resources.

The Fair promotes a variety of businesses and community agencies that encourage physical, mental, and spiritual well being.

Candy Weisner, Family Community Support Services (FCSS), Programmer, says the fair has morphed over the years combining a health fair and the former 'Cochrane Uncovered' which showcased Cochrane services.

"It is a lovely selection and cross section, a nice variety of nonprofits as well as businesses offering wellness in whatever that may mean."

Some businesses such as Farm Box and Beauty Counter will be present along with nonprofits such as Immigrant Services and Cochrane Addiction and Mental Health. Weisner adds, nonprofit groups also play a key role in enhancing our wellness.

"Not just welcoming but becoming part of your community, either belonging to one of the non profits there or maybe accessing the assistance they may have."

Many of the booths are becoming innovative and offering an interactive component to the fair as well.

"That is something that has really grown, the exhibitors are coming up with some great creative ideas, just to welcome people at their booth and to make it fun."

Weisner feels this year with many facing hard economic times, knowing what resources Cochrane has to offer will be beneficial.

"Even if the person themselves isn't having a hard time economically you can't help but have the domino effect of caring for others that you know are going through a difficult time."

The Cochrane Wellness Fair is running Saturday, October 22 from 10 am until 2 pm, at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre; while there is no cost, a donation to the Cochrane Activettes is encouraged. A free shuttle is also running from FCSS at 10 am and noon to alleviate any parking woes.
