Much more than an evening out, the Cochrane and Area Humane Society are getting ready for the 8th annual Gala.

While the Gala event is chalked full of entertainment and fantastic food, the annual event is an integral part of fundraising for our animal shelter.

Jaimie Anton, Cochrane and Area Humane Society, Fund Development Officer, says monies raised will be going towards their new addition, the Rehabilitation and Education Centre.

"The new addition is extremely important to us, it will essentially allow us to become self sustainable by offering training programs and courses; we're able to bring funds back into the shelter."

By becoming long term sustainable, the shelter becomes less dependent on donations.

"It is also a really great way for us to offer the programs, the education, and the training courses we do offer the community; we feel our programs and education classes are very important to the shelter."

The Gala has been a sell out in the past, but with a slowed economy tickets sales have slowed as well.

"I think it is a tough time for everyone right now and we certainly understand that. The Gala is very important for us in terms of supporting our new building."

Anton adds the mix and mingle night will be a great night out for all attendees.

"It is up at The Links of GlenEagles, we've got dueling pianos, some great food and h'ordeuvres, and we've got great live and silent auction items up for grabs."
