It all begins with breakfast.

Canada Day in Cochrane is sure to be special this year as community partnerships come together to bring entertainment to Cochranites all day long.

The day will begin once again at the Royal Canadian Legion as the Ladies Auxillary and volunteers prepare and serve a pancake breakfast to all attendees.

Flapjacks will be served hot off the griddle beginning at 9 am but there is no need to rush, says President of the Royal Canadian Legion, Darla Gullons, as breakfast hours have been extended "We did that because it seems to grow exponentially every year. It used to be 11, then 11:30 and now it's 12 o'clock in case we have to pick up any last minute attendees that come along."

Musical entertainment will fill the air and attendees will be able to enjoy breakfast while watching performances by Minithni (First Nations) dancers and the Calgary and District Square dancers.

The Cochrane Pipe Band will begin drumming up excitement shortly before 11 am to signal the formal portion of the morning with the official flag raising ceremony.

Opening remarks will be heard from Mayor Jeff Genung as well as President Gullons before the Honour Guard marches to the Cenotaph to watch the Canadian Flag rise and sing the national anthem in honour of Canada's 151st birthday.

Cochranites will be able to enjoy cupcakes and marvel at the beautifully revamped Cenotaph, says President Gullons. "Come have a look at our new Cenotaph that the Cenotaph committee has put together as a community effort. It is pretty much complete, Ongrowing Works and the Foundry has done a fantastic job, it looks beautiful."

The pancake breakfast costs $3 for those 12+, 6-12-year-olds $2 and under 5 are FREE.
