The second Helping Hands Food Drive of the year is hitting several west Cochrane communities on Saturday (April 27). Volunteers will be collecting non-perishable food items for the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank.

“Our volunteers will hit the ground at 10 a.m. looking for donations to support the Cochrane Food Bank,” says Community Engagement & Food Programs Manager April Baird.

Typically the biggest of the four annual food drives, volunteers will come to the communities of West Valley, West Terrace, West Pointe, Heartland, Heritage Hills, Bow Meadows, Bow Ridge and Jumping Pound.

“Leave your non-perishable food donations out on your doorstep. It's really that easy.”

“If you don't, then the volunteers might knock on the door at 10 on Saturday. If you don't want that to happen then just leave a few non-perishable food items out on your doorstep and they'll collect those and keep on going.“

The Cochrane Food Bank has released its wish list including oatmeal, rice, canned fruit, canned salmon and juice.

This is the second Helping Hands food drive of 2024 and Baird says they are off to a great start. “I think we had almost 11 pumpkin bins from the last food drive and that's kind of our benchmark for this one. "

“I believe the Cochrane Food Bank has about 15 pumpkin bins total. So if we could get that much food then that would fill them right up.”
