A Town of Cochrane art project is looking for student artists to depict Cochrane in their own way and then submit their original pieces.

The town's 150 Brush Strokes project has been running throughout 2017 as part of Cochrane's Canada 150 celebrations.  One artist each month has worked on a piece that depicts specific Cochrane landmarks.  The finished paintings are now on display at the Cochrane Visitor Information Centre.

Now the town is looking for local youth artists to submit an original piece.for the project.  Works will be judged and the top three submissions will receive funding toward their art education.

All of the 150 Brush Strokes paintings are for sale and proceeds will go towards the student scholarship awards.  Suzanne Goyetche of the Visitor Information Centre says that two of the pieces in the 150 Brush Strokes collection have sold so far.

Grade 12 students in Cochrane are invited to submit artwork that meets with the submission criteria:

  • Sixe:  12 X 16 (gallery-wrapped canvas)
  • Medium - Any
  • Theme: Anything connected to Cochrane

Students can submit their artwork to the Cochrane Visitor Information Centre, 521 First Street West, along with their contact information and a description of the piece.  Forms are available at cochrane.ca/VIC.

The deadline to receive submissions is Tuesday, October 31st.

The artwork will be judged by other 150 Brush Strokes artists and the winners will be announced at the ClubHouse Art Walk on Saturday, November 18th.
