It has been a whirlwind week for Cochrane BMX riders.

With ten members and their families just returning from worlds, President of Cochrane BMX, Brad Christensen says a lot of members are still riding the high.

Christensen can't say enough about the amazing experience in Rock Hill, South Carolina. "I was trying to think all last week and this week that one word that would explain the experience at the World's but it is hard to come up with just one word. It is really memorable, successful; the experience these kids gained, it was just a world class event ran by USA BMX...it was just amazing."

For many of the riders it could be a one shot deal, shares Christensen, not only from technical skill level but also cost. "You've got to treat it like it's your only chance. It's not easy to qualify for the Team Canada qualification and for the next couple years it is in Europe and the Middle East so even if you did qualify it may not be in the cards."

The riders all rode to their potential and Christensen couldn't be more proud. "Our biggest disadvantage is our weather, our kids can train 5 or 6 months a year on an outdoor track the Worlds kids are typically training 12 months a year."

The biggest plus for Christensen was seeing the fire in the riders eyes which may be seen this weekend.Numerous Cochrane riders are headed to Airdrie for provincial races 5 and 6. "These kids have a little more oomph in their step and ready to take on whatever is thrown at them."

Christensen shares turnout could be a wildcard landing on a long weekend. "It is tough to gauge when coming back from the World Championship and the race being over August long weekend it will be interesting to see the numbers Airdrie pulls in but there is a pretty big schwack of kids coming from Cochrane."

Cochrane riders always fair well in the provincial race series and Christensen imagines he will see some top notch performances again over the weekend. "I expect that to continue, the kids coming back from the Worlds are more driven than ever to race at a high level and we have a lot of kids in the club trying to get to that level, the kids always do well."

August 18, 19 weekend will bring the last two provincial races to St. Albert  before riders head to Nationals in Calgary, August 26.

The riders will continue to ride through fall as long as Mother Nature is on their side.
