Cochrane's Tyrel Bauer, 18, has been selected in the sixth round, 164th overall, in the NHL entry draft by the Winnipeg Jets.

With the WHL's Seattle Thunderbirds, the 6'3" defenceman had three goals and 14 assists for 17 points in 60 games last season. Bauer was ranked #166 in the final NHL Central Scouting rankings for the 2020 NHL Draft.

In his rookie season,  Bauer played 64 games and had two goals and 12 assists for 14 points with 91 penalty minutes. He scored his first WHL goal January 27, 2019, vs. Kamloops in a 5-2 win. Bauer was originally selected in the second round, 41st overall, in 2017 Bantam Draft.

Prior to this, he was an Alberta Cup champion in the 2016-17 season and played 32 games with the Airdrie CFR Bisons before being called up to the Thunderbirds. He also played AAA with the Airdrie Xtreme and AC Avalanche.

He also competed for a spot on the 2019 roster of Canada's Gretzky-Hlinka Cup team.
