Organizers of the 15th Kimmett Cup can look back at the weekend with a grin on their faces.

For 15 years, this quintessential Canadian charity event that centres upon Canadian's favourite sport has been creating memories while raising over $2 million in memory of Lindsay Leigh Kimmett.

The Feb. 9-10 event successfully hit its target of raising $150,000, which is being shared between a number of valued organizations. They include Cochrane Helping Hands, Alberta Children’s Hospital Foundation Children’s Mental Health Initiative, Cochrane Helping Families Handle Cancer, Cochrane Search & Rescue, Cochrane Lions Club, and the Lindsay Leigh Kimmett Memorial Foundation.

It was made possible by the 45 teams hitting the seven sheets of ice for the three-on-three tournament, the contributions of 130 sponsors for the tournament and online auction plus the efforts of 70 dedicated volunteers.

With the assistance of Mason Raymond, the organizers were able to recruit three Calgary Flames alumni to add a new flair to the event. Mason Raymond, Cory Sarich, and Brent Krahn played a total of 11 games on Saturday afternoon and took part in a delightful on ice 'hot stove interview' with 8-year-old Cameron Rothery, who played on the ACH Kings.

The three were involved in a Ringer Draft. The top three fundraising efforts of teams determined who would participate in the draft. We are Family secured first pick and selected, who else, but our hometown former NHLer Mason Raymond.

With Raymond's help, the team won the competitive division for the first time after 14 previous attempts. They defeated the Cochrane Cruisers, 18-13, in the final.

50-50 draw remains open until Feb. 29

While the online auction ended Sunday, there's still a chance to win the giant 50-50 draw. The current jackpot has climbed above $6,500 and could reach as high as $20,000 before it closes on Feb. 29.

All proceeds from this 50/50 will support important patient and family centred care programs at the Alberta Children’s Hospital.
