The regular season of the indoor minor soccer season may be winding down, but the season isn't quite over for several Cochrane teams.

Cochrane Minor Soccer's U19 girls, U15 girls, and U13 mixed team are all headed to their respective provincials on the March 14 weekend. Others will be enjoying some tournament play and training to finish out the season.

Last weekend, the final home games of the season were held at the SLS Family Sports Centre indoor turf.

"Everybody's been having a good season," says Rhonda Carr, tiered team play coordinator for Cochrane Minor Soccer. "The older teams are all in the top third of their divisions, so they're competitive, and where we want them to be."

They also entered a U9 team in league play for the first time. They started in tier 'C' and were bumped up to tier 'B'.

"They learned lots and had plenty of fun," says Carr.

Cochrane Minor Soccer saw seven teams take to the indoor turf. It was the largest number in several years.

Registration is now open for the much larger outdoor season that will see 400 to 500 youth taking to the field.

"We're growing, and we're expecting nine to 11 teams for the outdoor season. All the kids that play winter sports usually come back and play in outdoor soccer."

League play starts May 4. Depending upon the weather, they hope to get on local pitches in early to mid-April to tune-up for the season.

Minor soccer has added a new development program for U9 and U10 players who want to play soccer but don't want to make a huge time commitment.

"We know not everyone 8-years-old wants to jump into a full-time soccer commitment. We're finally getting big enough to be able to cater to all those different needs and wants in the community."
