Cochrane and Area Events Society (CAES) and Spray Lake Sawmills Centre will provide three hours of free family entertainment on New Year's Eve.

CAES chair Marina Chabbert says they've joined forces to offer an array of indoor and outdoor activities to celebrate the end of 2023 and the start of 2024.

"We are teaming up with the SLS Centre again this year. We are opening up their facility free of charge from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. We invite all families to come out, bring their skates and just participate in the fun."

The evening will include something for everyone in the family from face painting, climbing with Spiderman, a dance party with balloon drop at 6 p.m., sleigh rides, fire pits and hot chocolate, fire dancer shows, roving princess performers, and more.

A huge fireworks show will wrap up the event at 7 p.m. which will be just as big as the light show that goes on Canada Day.

"It was a little bit odd to introduce that tradition because we did get some comments on it but it make so much sense as a family event to get the kids involved and let them see fireworks when they're not so late at night." says Chabbert.

The popular event continues to grow each year with more than 6,000 people in attendance last year.

"This year we're spreading our activities out a little bit more to disperse the crowd and give them a little bit more breathing room, so you'll see some activities upstairs as well as some in the main lobby area and kind of dispersed throughout the whole centre."

There will also be lots of outdoor activities held in the parking lot of SLS Centre.

The fireworks show will be synced to a soundtrack playing on 91.5 FM CochraneNow.
