Earlier today in Riversong, two young girls were hit by a vehicle while they were out walking. 

It happened at the intersection of River Heights Drive and Rivercrest Drive. 

Cochrane RCMP Cst. Clayton Gelinas said police responded at 4:02 p.m. 

"Two young girls were crossing the marked crosswalk there, aged nine and 10, and they were sideswiped by a car. EMS and fire were on scene as well and there were no major injuries to the girls. They were cleared by EMS." 

The girls were not taken to the hospital.

Mounties did charge the driver, said Gelinas. 

"The driver of the vehicle was charged under the Traffic Safety Act." 

No further details have been released.
