The Cannex Cochrane Generals home opener on Saturday night against Airdrie Techmation Thunder will mark a new era for the junior hockey club.

Hot off an opening weekend sweep on the road, the Gens will celebrate their home opener in Totem One at the SLS Centre. The puck drop is set for 7:15 p.m.. Fans are encouraged to arrive earlier for a special opening ceremony.

"We're expecting a big crowd at our home opener, and with Truth and Reconciliation Day, we're going to have a very thoughtful moment before we start, which will get us off on the right foot," says Gens president Rick Richards, "We have a strong team, a strong coaching staff, and I believed we've built something that will last us a long time, so we're excited."

We'll get our first look at their new jersey that follows in the footsteps of Cannex Contracting coming on board as a title sponsor.

"They have come alongside us in ways that we never expected," says Richards. "They appreciate everything we're doing as an organization, and they've just brought us up to a whole new level."

It also marked the first time the Gens have played in the SLS Centre after five seasons at the Cochrane Arena.
