Empire and Sobeys Inc. has announced plans to build a state-of-the-art customer fulfillment centre in Rocky View County to support the company’s online grocery home delivery service set to launch in Alberta in 2023.

Rocky View County says the new centre will create 1,500 jobs and will feature world-leading robotic automated warehouse and home delivery technology.

It will be the company’s first customer fulfillment centre for home delivery in Western Canada and third in the country. Together with the company’s existing distribution centre in the county, it will meet the growing demand for grocery e-commerce and support an expansion of the company’s presence in the Alberta market.

Sobeys has a 1.3 million square foot distribution centre in the High Plains Industrial Park, located in the county's East Balzac area.

RVC officials say their continued success in attracting major players like this reflects the county’s friendly business climate and ideal location for the regional warehouse and logistics to meet the needs of many national and international businesses.
