The Last of Us continues to put the spotlight on Alberta.

Today, the HBO series was nominated for three Golden Globes, including best TV drama series. Leading actor Pedro Pascal was shortlisted for best actor in a TV drama series for his portrayal of Joel Miller. Lead actress Bella Ramsey was nominated for her portrayal of Ellie Williams.

The post-apocalyptic HBO series was shot entirely in Alberta in more than 180 locations. It's considered a feather in the cap of the Alberta film industry, and the most expensive production in HBO history.

According to Oxford Economics, the series cost HBO $71 million on production crews and labour, and another $70 million was spent on local suppliers.

All of the $141 million was spent in Alberta alone, causing a positive impact on the Alberta economy.

While HBO saw a $40 million tax incentive to film in Alberta, it is estimated that for every dollar of the tax incentive, there was a $4.60 dollar return to the Alberta GDP. Overall, the show generated over $182 million for Alberta's GDP.

It's set to return to Canada for Season Two but unfortunately not in Alberta this time around. Production is scheduled to begin in Vancouver in January.
