A 27-year-old man is facing charges following a shooting with an RCMP officer near Cochrane earlier this week.

"On April 16, 2024, a Cochrane RCMP officer attempted a traffic stop in a rural area near Cochrane. While attempting to effect an arrest on the driver, a confrontation ensued, resulting in the officer discharging their service pistol." stated the RCMP. 

The suspect suffered serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

Cohen Rattlesnake is charged with:

  • Assaulting peace officer with a weapon x 2;
  • Flight from peace officer;
  • Resisting peace officer;
  • Firearm: unauthorized possession;
  • Firearm in Motor Vehicle;
  • Firearm possession contrary to prohibition order;
  • Dangerous operation conveyance;
  • Weapon: unauthorized possession;
  • Possession of property obtained by crime

The Morley resident was remanded in custody and is set to appear in court in Calgary on April 19 and the Tsuut’ina Nation Court of Justice as well. 

The investigation is ongoing and the RCMP say further charges may be pursued.
