The Cochrane Lions Club has made a $5,000 contribution toward a special two-seat wheelchair-accessible garden swing to enhance life for residents of Bethany Cochrane.

Monica Johnson, Bethany Cochrane's site administrator, said they have reached out for financial support to purchase the garden swing to allow seniors with mobility issues the ability to Bethany's courtyard with friends and family.

"It's so lovely for them to be able to be able to enjoy our garden spaces, so that's why we really wanted to find something that would help with mobility aid," says Johnson. "Now when the grandkids come, they can sit on the garden swing together, so we're really excited about that."

Heidi Lambie, senior development officer for the Bethany Care Foundation, says financial support like this is extremely important to provide special features for Bethany residents.

"All of (the residents) are from this area, so keeping the funding within the community for the community members is so important, and having the service clubs being able to help us out is a huge asset. We couldn't purchase this equipment without them."

The $5,000 put them over the top to purchase the garden swing, which costs over $20,000. The rest of the funding was provided by other service organizations and corporate donors.

Keith Garner, of the Lions Club, says they were pleased to be of assistance.
