Cochrane RCMP and emergency crews are responding to a large fire NW of Cochrane in the Mountain View Estates area.

Police are asking people to stay away from the area so crews have room to work.

Nearby residents including those in Monterra have received an alert.

It states:

Prepare to Evacuate - - Cochrane Lakes Area Wildfire

There is a large wildfire in the Cochrane Lakes area. Begin preparations to evacuate should it prove necessary. If an evacuation is ordered, details will be provided. 

Residents of the area are to remain vigilant as the situation develops.
