A fundraiser Saturday June 25 is all about country and Cochrane.

Time to dust off your boots and cowboy hat and head up to the Cochrane Arena.

Boots for Roots is an all day fundraiser in support of a new playground at Holy Spirit School.

Todd Simmer, Boots for Roots event organizer, says he is happy to raise money to encourage physical activity.

"We see there is so much screen time that happens these days, and this is the ability to rebuild something. The kids structure that they have right now is old and in need of replacing."

The all day family, friendly event offers up games, activities, music, and great food.

"Throughout the day from 10 -2:30 is a tribute to Cochrane kids where we have Butterfield Acres coming out, live music, kids games, comes with lunch at 3 for $15. The dinner ticket starts at 3 it is pretty casual, an old fashioned dinner, some real special live entertainment."

A live auction will get underway around 5 to 6 pm and some creative items have been donated.

"A live auction with some really cool unique items from Mimi Stuart, Aaron E king, Big Sky Landscaping, Cochrane Classic Bull riding. We actually have some very unique art pieces in there, we have a Jiminy Cricket painted from 1940, and Mimi Stuart her stuff sits in The Smithsonian Museum on a permanent basis."

Jake Matthews will be headlining the dance at 8pm and bringing a little country with him.

In the end Simmer says he is hopeful to raise a good chunk of change from the event.

"We are hoping to raise $100,000 because that is what we we are short, so that is what we are going for. So really all we need is the attendance and people to come out."
