The third annual Cochrane Green Shirt Day event is set to go this weekend at Spray Lake Sawmills (SLS) Centre.

Organizer, Michelle Hounslow said it's a fun, ball hockey event that is meant for people of all-ages.

"Just come down, play a little hockey, learn a little bit about organ donation and how it has impacted some of us and of course learn about Logan Boulet and the Logan Boulet effect. How his passing and organ donation inspired Canadians to register as donors."

Awareness about organ donation is starting to build said Hounslow.

"People will come up and talk to us and tell us their stories about their connection to donors or just hearing about the Humboldt Broncos bus crash and how that inspired them. Or ask about how to register. There are people that will pull out their driver's licenses and show me the little heart on there that shows that they are a registered donor."

The free, drop-in road hockey event goes on Sunday, April 7 from 2:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the SLS Centre, East Parking Lot.

"With the snow coming up with the weather happening this week, we do have an indoor space. So if we are not able to be outside on the day, we do have somewhere that we can still do the event inside."

There will be activities for younger children as well.

Hounslow, a transplant recipient herself is currently training for the Canadian Transplant Games

"Last year I was fortunate to go to Australia to the World Transplant Games and we had a small but mighty Canadian competing team there. The World Transplant Games, the winter version just happened in Italy last month. I am back in the pool now, I had surgery in December, but I'm back in the pool now working towards the Canadian Transplant Games, which are in August of this year. That'll be a fun time to get together with the Canadian transplant community. And then, you know, health and everything lining up I hope to also be at the World Transplant Games next summer in Germany."

Everyone in attendance will also be able to enter to win a Calgary Flames hockey stick signed by Blake Coleman.

Green Shirt Day was inspired by Logan Boulet, who passed away in the Humboldt Broncos bus crash on Apr. 7, 2018. He was an organ and tissue donor and saved six lives. He has been an inspiration to many others to step forward in what's being called the Logan Boulet Effect
