It was a great weekend for some karate kids in Cochrane this weekend.

The 15 athletes from the Cochrane team, ranging in ages 6 to adult attended the Arashido Samurai Series Tournament in Calgary, with 14 of the athletes placing in three types of martial arts such as Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, Karate, and Muay Thai.

Mark Paffrath, Instructor, Cochrane Arishido Dojo, says the athletes represented Cochrane, very well and took medals in more than one division. The more experienced students brought home gold while every class that had a Cochrane participant medaled in that division.

"They all did very well in each of their disciplines. They all had fantastic accomplishments and did exceptionally well."

These tournaments take place every 2 months and it is an opportunity for them to practice under pressure and to perform in front of different clubs and with spectators. The tournaments are adrenaline filled, exciting days with up to 150 athletes competing in one day.

The next interclub tournament will take place in February.
