With the help from generous donations, The Kiwanis Club of Cochrane has been able to equip more of the community's most vulnerable population with sanitary supplies.

Hand sanitizer has been in extremely high demand for months now, and nearly impossible to find on any store shelf in town, so the local Kiwanis Club has decided to take these sanitization matters into their own hands.

They set out on a mission last month to help supply local organizations and front line workers with hand sanitizer which they have been busy bottling and distributing.

Kiwanis Club of Cochrane's president Ronald Gosselin says that after some internal fundraising they were able to invest in a couple of bulk orders. He says "We were able to get our hands on hand sanitizer in bulk, it is manufactured based on the recipe from the World Health Organization. It has 80% alcohol in it and it works to fight the virus"

So far they have been able to produce two large batches of hand sanitizer, with a total of 160 bottles which they have distributed to The Cochrane Activettes Food Bank and most recently, the Big Hill Lodge assisted living facility in Cochrane.

They also partnered up with Soap for Hope Canada to repurpose used bars of hotel soap, sanitize them and bring them up to AHS standards.

Gosselin says that they were able to secure 400 bars of soap that they plan on distributing to First Nation authorities in Morley.

Gosselin says that The Kiwanis Club is hoping to produce and distribute even more hand sanitizer to more organizations and frontline workers in and around the Cochrane area.  He says "There is a lot of need for this and we'd like to do some fundraising to raise enough funds to produce another batch or two and be able to distribute to other service clubs in the area."
