Thanks to a 50.2 per cent majority vote, we can look forward to an extra hour of fun ... or sleep this Sunday!

It was a slim margin, but in the last election, Albertans voted 'no' to permanent Daylight Saving Time (DST), and opted to stick with the twice-a-year clock change.

Now, this Sunday, November 7 at  2 a.m. Albertans will roll the clock back by one hour to 1 a.m.

The fall time change means that on Sunday, sunrise and sunset will be about an hour earlier than the previous day,  and we'll gain more light in the morning.

According to Cochrane Fire Services, Daylight Saving Time is the perfect time of year to do updates and maintenance on your home detectors.

They recommend changing batteries in smoke alarms and CO detectors this weekend and say that taking the added safety precautions can be lifesaving.

Alberta has observed DST for 61 years now, dating back to 1918.

Enjoy your extra hour of daylight this weekend. The clocks change over at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday.
