As Halloween draws near, RCMP is reminding all road users to be mindful of trick-or-treaters this Sunday.

Corporal Troy Savinkoff reminds parents and guardians to, “Focus on making sure your young ones are visible if they do have a dark costume ensure that they have some glow sticks or some kind of visual aide so that people on the road can see them.” It is also important to ensure that masks or hoods do not obstruct vision and the person can see clearly.

Savinkoff also reminds motorists when driving in residential areas on Hallows Eve, “Please don’t just follow the speed limit, I would recommend going half of what the speed limit is. So, like 15 km an hour as you travel through town and in our residential areas, so you are not being a danger to the trick-or-treaters.”

A reminder to the trick-or-treaters too that even monsters, princesses, and Spiderman need to abide by the rules of the road and make sure they use crosswalks and follow traffic signals.

If possible, it is always a good idea to do trick-or-treating with parents or in a trusted group.

Savinkoff says, “We should have a safe evening I know we haven’t had a lot of issues in the past so hopefully that trend continues.”

Have a safe, fun Happy Halloween!
