A radio ad playing piqued the interest of 12-year-old Shelby Fenton.

The grade seven, St. Tim's student says she heard the 'Shave Your Lid For a Kid" commercial and thought her hair could be more valuable off her head than on it.

Although Shelby hasn't personally lost anyone close to cancer, she can't imagine how terrible a child going through treatment must feel. "I thought about it and thought if I had cancer I would really appreciate it. If a stomach bug feels bad, cancer must feel really, really bad."

Signing up online, Shelby has her own donation page as she raises money for Kids Cancer Care in support of cancer research and Camp Kindle.

While her original goal was to raise $750, after some encouragement, Shelby raised her target up to $2000. Although she likes to play with her which currently sits just past her shoulder blades, she is okay with having a new shaved 'do.' "I won't be able to go outside without a toque anymore, but my head will feel really light."

Shelby will be shaving her head on March 15 with a time and location yet to be determined. "I hope this will help someone who might need it."

Since its inception in 1998, Shave Your Lid for a Kid has raised more than 13 million dollars with funds going to the Kids Cancer Care foundations three programs; Camp and Outreach, Research and Hospital, and Educational Support and Scholarships.
