Cochrane RCMP are reminding residents to use caution after a resident was shot at during a theft in the Springbank area.

Just before 6:30 am yesterday morning (July 27) Cochrane RCMP received a complaint from a resident of Springbank Road who saw some individuals stealing items including a side by side trailer from a back shop on his yard.

The resident confronted the males who then fled the scene in vehicles. After contacting the RCMP the victim proceeded to make patrols looking for the vehicles himself and at one point caught up with one of the suspect vehicles and blocked them on a roadway.

Corporal Troy Savinkfoff, says that is when things tuned sideways. "At that point where he had the individuals blocked off that one of them pulled out a firearm and shot a single round in his direction and then left the scene"

RCMP were lucky to obtain good video surveillance of the suspects and at least one of the vehicles involved which is expected to be released by Monday. The one vehicle is described as a black Ford F150 four door short box with red pin striping.

Luck enough no one was hurt nor was the vehicle struck with any flying stray bullets.

RCMP are urging anyone with information involving this case or the people involved to call the detachment at 403-851-8000 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477.
