Cochrane RCMP is once again pleased to report that drivers in and around the Cochrane area are remaining fairly compliant.

After the second weekend of holiday check stops, Cochrane RCMP, Sergeant Dave Hardy with Integrated Traffic Services, says drivers, for the most part, are making good decisions when it comes to driving under the influence. "It was actually a pretty good weekend for compliance. We apprehended three suspended drivers, one 3-day provincial driving suspension was issued, one 24 hour driving suspension for drug use, and one impaired over .08 under the criminal code charge was issued."

Four liquor tickets and one cannabis use ticket within a vehicle was also issued during the December 7th to the 9th checks.

Sgt. Hardy says around 700 vehicles were stopped and checked at various check stops around Cochrane and so far the numbers are pretty good. While two party weekends remain before Christmas Day, Sgt. Hardy, anticipates numbers of intercepted vehicles to remain consistent, which is great news. "For the number of vehicles we are checking, I think people appear to be getting the message. That is a lot of vehicles and those aren't huge numbers and we're happy with that. While we would like to intercept nothing in a perfect world, we are always finding something. Overall, the compliance is pretty good for our area and we also continue to have no alcohol-related collisions so far and fingers crossed that keeps up through the remaining season."

Although the number of cases of intercepted drivers remains low, it doesn't mean RCMP won't remain diligent in keeping our local roads and highways safe. "We will continue on through the holiday season and into the New Year as well. There is going to be a lot of check stops and impaired driving enforcement, and more information will be coming in the news."
