Local photographer, Tim Hall, has scored a hat trick with his captivating photography.

Receiving word in August, three of Hall's images have been selected out of tens of thousands to be part of three different Canadian Geographic editions. One image will appear in the 2018 calendar series while two others will be featured in two separate Can Geo magazines, one in the Canadian Geographic Ultimate Canadian Geography Quiz Volume 3 and the other in the upcoming issue of Canadian Geographic Travel.

Hall shares he has been told he sees things differently than others. "It might be a gift, but it is how I see the world. It is nice to see the beauty in things and not just the destructive nature of mankind, and I can represent that in my images."

Seeing the happiness and beauty in Cochrane is something Hall notices every day. "It's pretty cool to live where we do. I love the imagery of Cochrane, people are so happy here."

From a professional standpoint, having his images be selected, is a major feather in his cap. "Everybody says what did you get for that?! I always say that it looks pretty good on a resume. I think that's my seventh image that has been selected, to get three (images) in a row like this, that is insane. It is the crowning achievement for anyone with a camera to see your name in a magazine of that calibre."

In the Extreme Weather Calendar, Hall has the month of August as well as the back cover image. Hall, couldn't be happier, as capturing changing weather systems is his passion. "I spent a lot of times chasing these crazy storms around, putting myself into situations that most normal people would run from and I am standing out in the lightning storm with an aluminium tripod, but it's worth it because it was a great shot."

While it would be great to eventually land a job with a magazine like Canadian Geographic, Hall doesn't take the recognition lightly. "It puts me into a higher category or higher respect level with my peers, that opens another playing level and my name further out there on the map which leads to my next adventure."

Hall has mentored many other photographers in the Cochrane area but shares he can only teach to a certain extent. "There is only so much I will show them and then they have to become who they are."

The world of social media has caused many of Hall's photos to go viral. "When you get a note from someone on the other side of the planet looking for the GPS coordinates of that shot that is a pretty neat feeling to have people curious as to where the heck that is on the planet. That puts Cochrane on a map on a global level."

Hall will keep submitting but at this point has no defined goal for 2018. "I honestly have no clue. That is part of the adventure; seeing where life takes me will be fun to find out."
