PPC leader Maxime Bernier is capping off the last full day of his Alberta swing in Cochrane on July 13.

The leader of the newly-formed federal People's Party of Canada plans to visit the Cochrane Farmers' Market, enjoy some ice cream at our iconic MacKay's and take in the Average Joe Rodeo before finishing the day at the barn dance at the Cochrane Lions Events Centre. He'll be slipping into Calgary briefly for a fundraising event.

Banff-Airdrie candidate Nadine Wellwood is thrilled Bernier will be able to hear from many Cochranites while here for about 18 hours. She says the length of his stay here is unique among national leaders.

"We want to get him out in front of as many people as possible and that's his big objective," says Wellwood, a Cochrane resident. "He really wants to meet the people, to hear from them and to introduce himself."

Bernier will kick off his Alberta swing in Airdrie for a Stampede breakfast on July 7, before heading to Calgary, then making stops from Lethbridge to Grande Prairie.

PPC candidate Wellwood says momentum is building in her campaign as we get closer to the fall federal election.

"We're getting more and more interest every day," she says. "I have people calling me, wanting to know more about what we're doing, and wanting to know more about our platform. The CPC (Conservatives) and Liberals platforms being put forth seem to be actually working in our favour. I'm getting the comment that we're the only ones that really have a platform."
