Austin Keller, Talus Hume and Slater Ransom have been named to the south all-star team of the Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL) being held in Okotoks early in the New Year.

The league is holding its first all-star game in some time and 20-player rosters have been named for both the north and south division.

Cochrane Generals head coach Derek Donald says it's a chance to honour and recognize the talent in the league and he'd also like to see them consider holding a young guns game to showcase some of the up-and-coming players, too.

"There's a lot of discussion about what we could do as a league to showcase the talent and I think the all-star game is a great step in the right direction."

All three Gens selected are the team's scoring leaders, but Donald says that's secondary to their character.

"All three are consistent, all three work really hard, they come to the rink with a great attitude and they have a lot of fun playing the game. You aren't going to see many players at the top of the leaderboard that don't really love and enjoy the game and I think that's what all three of these guys embody."

The game will take place at the Murray Arena in Okotoks on Jan. 7 and includes a fastest skater competition. Game time is 1:15 p.m. and  tickets will be available at the door.
