The Cochrane Piranhas have wrapped up their 2017 regular swim meet season.

Fourty four swimmers ranging in age from 6 to 19 years old represented Cochrane at the two day Canmore Coho Invitational Meet. There were over 355 swimmers from Region E that participated in the event including Calgary Cascade Summer Swim Club, Calgary Swordfish, Calgary Tritons, Canmore Coho, Cochrane Piranhas, Didsbury Aqua-Jets, High River Otters, Okotoks Stingrays as well as the Innisfail Dolphins and the Devon Dolphins.

Head Coach, Breanna Hendriks, says she was impressed. This was the third meet back to back for the Piranhas and they managed to still pull off best times. "I know Friday night it was 100% best times. Everybody overall swam awesome and accomplished the goals they had set."

Hendriks shares there is not one age group dominating the club, they are all doing exceptionally well and meeting the demands placed on them. "It is different goals for each different group. The younger kids are obviously focused on technique and not getting disqualified and improving their technique overall with all four strokes. Where the older kids it is more about race plans and strategy and doing the events to get ready for the upcoming Regionals and Provincials."

The other great news for the Piranhas is the opening of the Jayman BUILT Aquatic Centre. Hendriks, says the club has been waiting along time to dive in and the new pool will make a lot of difference. "It's going bring a lot of energy; they want to come to work out, they want to experience the new pool. For me, from a coaching perspective it is finally to be able to do certain sets taht I couldn't do in the previous pool and in a long term it's going to help us."

The Piranhas are now preparing for Regionals which will be held on August 12th and 13th at the Repsol Centre in Calgary followed by Provincials the following weekend (August 18-20, 2017) in Edmonton for any individual (or team) that places in 1st or 2nd place at Regionals.
