Community members can take in their own 'stars on ice' this Saturday (December 2).

The Cochrane Skating Club are putting grant dollars to good use by adding to their bi-annual Carnival, themed a 'Night at the Movies.' The club's youngest skaters all the way up to seniors will showcase their skillset to event goers over two shows.

Karen Allison, a coach with the Skating Club, shares it is a first for her to see guest skaters added to the lineup. "We have a junior level pair's team (Marin Ono and Kurtis Schreiber) coming in to skate as well as a synchro team coming in from Calgary that will be in addition to our already great skating show."

Allison is hopeful that additional guests will become part of the show going forward, feeling it will be a treat for both members, families, and the community at large. "Carnival is always a wonderful way for families and skaters to go out and be proud of the skills they have learned and to show that off in a fun themed environment."

This year's night at the movies will include music and themes that will delight all generations. Attendees will be able to see Minions, Shark Tale Sharks, Top Guns, Wizards from Harry Potter, Lions from the Lion King and many more.

The club will be offering two showtimes on Saturday, 1 and 5 pm, at the Cochrane Arena. Tickets can be picked up at the door; adults $10, seniors and youth $5, under 5 is free, with all proceeds going back to the Cochrane Skating Club. The club will also have a silent auction and raffle table as part of the event.

If you have a child/youth interested in becoming a member of the Cochrane Skating Club registration is open for the New Year and you can find more information here.
