The Cochrane Generals struck back against the Stettler Lightning with an important home win, Nov. 24, but it wasn't without some trying moments.

With a 4-0 lead, the Gens were set on cruise when the Stettler Lightning fired a few bolts to draw within two by early in the third period. The pedal went down and the Gens took advantage of two power plays to get back in the driver's seat and reclaim a four-goal lead. Stettler scored at 14:01 of the third to end the game in a 6-3 decision.

Rookie Sam Norris scored his first of the season from Jordan Fisher and Chris Sambrook at 12:59. Talus Hume scored five minutes later to give to the Gens a 2-0 lead at the end of the stanza from Brandon Aab and Brad Bergevin. Slater Ransom opened scoring in the second with a powerplay goal, assisted by Austin Keller and Brandon Aab. Scott Shugg made it 4-0 at the halfway mark of the period from rookie Christian Dees, who was making his first appearance as a Gen.

The anticipation of a fourth shutout of the season for goalie Erik Garber evaporated with less than a minute to go in the second. The Lightning continued to strike early in the third with a shorthanded goal just past the one-minute mark of the third.

That's when the Gens buckled down their defensive play. They were also aided by two powerplay goals from the Ransom, Hume and Aab line. Talus Hume scored for Austin Keller near the halfway mark and Brandon Aab scored just three minutes later from Keller and Hume to take a 6-2 lead.

The Lightning scored one more, but by then the Gens were in control. They were aided by two late penalties by the Lightning. Any chance of adding a sixth attacker faded when Stettler drew a penalty in the last minute of play.

The Lightning has a fast skating squad that was able to match the Gens with 31 shots on net. They also weren't afraid to drop the gloves and the Gens Walid Hassin and Jordan Fisher will be sitting out tonight's game to serve misconducts.

With Strathmore idle last night, the Gens leapfrogged into fourth in the tight south division race. That could change by the end of the weekend. Four points separate second from fifth and only the Medicine Hat Cubs seem to be lagging at this point.

It's the Cubs the Gens play tonight on the road in their first meeting of the season. The Gens are on the road the next couple of weeks and their next home game isn't until Dec. 15 against the league-leading Okotoks Bisons.
