The Doug Campbell curling rink left today with a busload of 50 athletes from Zone 2 to compete in the Alberta 55+ Plus Winter Games being hosted by Cold Lake/St/ Paul this weekend.

Play starts tomorrow morning (Mar. 1) for the 55+ mixed team and the medal draws are on Sunday morning.

The Campbell Rink includes third Ingrid Schmidt, second Bob Bleaney and lead Debra Nielsen, who won the Zone 2 qualifier in Black Diamond in November.

"We're looking forward to having some fun and doing our best," says Campbell.

There are 17 other sports being offered in the games, with some of the events being held in Bonnyville. Eight of them are qualifers for the 2020 55+ Canada Games in Kamloops, B.C.

Better known as Big Country, zone 2 stretches from the B.C. to Saskatchewan borders, with Sundre-Olds-Three Hills on its northern boundary and Black Diamond-High River on its southern border. Calgary is a separate zone and sits in the middle of Zone 2 like a doughnut.
