Canada's U18 female team notched a 4-3 win in the opening game of a summer series against the USA yesterday in Lake Placid, NY and are currently preparing to hit the ice for Game Two.

Cochrane's Sarah Wozniewicz scored a powerplay indirect goal from the high slot 16 minutes into the first period to put Canada ahead 3-2. The teams traded goals in both the second and third.

Shots were even at 24.

It’s the first time since 2016 the Canadians have won the opener of the annual summer series. Canada improved to 26-25 all-time against the U.S. with the win, dating back to 2007.

U18 head coach Howie Draper says the team has room for improvement but shows promise.

"I felt like (the US) came out and had a bit of a jump on us in terms of energy and puck movement, but I felt like we were able to turn that tide, stem their momentum and gain some momentum ourselves," says Draper.

Game Two starts today at 1 p.m. MST.
