If anyone is looking to try rugby or just hone their skills, Bow Valley Rugby Club (BVRC) is offering a winter indoor touch rugby program for youth and adults.

The coaches will not only be teaching basic skills and techniques essential for the game, but also inter-club games will be played where those skills will be practiced.

Touch rugby is slightly different than regular rugby as it is non-contact. It is an opportunity to get comfortable with ball handling, passing, footwork and the rules of the game without the intimidation of full contact.

Francine Horton, Bow Valley Rugby Club, Administrator, says that no experience is necessary and all skill levels are encouraged. The club has kept the registration very inexpensive, as the main goal is to get youths playing a sport and having fun.

"We will have experienced coaches there, and have been coaching rugby for years. We are hoping to get some new kids out to try rugby to see if they like it. That will give them a good base if they want to play outdoor rugby in the summer. It’s a really cheap and cheerful way to try it out."

This program is for ages youth 11 to 15 and adult 16 to 99. The youth program runs Friday nights starting January 13 at Spray Lakes Sawmills Family Sports Centre from 7-8 pm,  followed by the adult program at 8-9 pm.
