According the to the AHS website, Cochrane is now showing two active cases and five active cases in Rocky View County. Dr. Deena Hinshaw provided an update for Monday, August 24 and provincially the numbers are as follows:

  • Friday there were 83 cases with two additional deaths after 10,175 tests were processed

  • Saturday saw 106 new cases with 10,098 tests processed

  • Sunday there were  69 new cases with two additional death after 8,849 processed

  • The total number of active cases in the province are at 1,172

  • There are 45 people in hospital with nine in ICU 

  • To date 11,600 people have recovered from the virus

Dr. Hinshaw spoke to some trend details that they noticing. "Primarily, we are seeing growth in cases linked to gatherings such as weddings, funerals, family reunions, prayer meetings, informal gatherings of friends, backyard parties and community groups. There has been a particularly high attack rate in family gatherings." Hinshaw adds, "When we let our guard down the virus has its opportunity."

Alberta's top doctor says it is possible to hold a safe gathering but keep in mind, "Keep gatherings small and meet outside rather than inside whenever possible."
