A traffic camera situated at the intersection of Highway 1A and Centre Avenue will hopefully help with some motorists' frustrations.

The camera's live feed footage will be updated every thirty seconds on the Cochrane Now news portal to help motorists plan their best route.

Town Councillor, Patrick Wilson says while the camera won't solve traffic problems it may be able to provide an alternative option to motorists before they head out. "It will be useful for when you are choosing your times to travel; it could definitely be beneficial."

Just like the flashing blue light that alerts motorists of an oncoming train, Wilson feels the camera won't be a gamechanger, but will at least be somewhat helpful. "It will be nice to see the documentation of it. We will have a bridge open next fall and it will end up funneling even more traffic through that corridor, I believe. It will be nice to see the changes as time goes on as we implement our strategies for Centre Ave."

Wilson says while he appreciates what the Cochrane Now camera will provide, the real solution is something the current town council continues to work on. "We have some things coming down the pipeline when it comes to Cochrane's traffic problems both from the province and internally that people will like. I think it will be nice to see the progress because many changes are coming."

The traffic cam footage is accessible by both your desktop computer as well as any mobile device 24 hours a day.
