A trio of Cochrane Generals' veterans have been busy rewriting the junior hockey club's record book and just how extensive the change will be known by the end of the 2017-18 season.

Slater Ransom is now believed to be the top scorer in the club's history after notching three points in their Dec. 22 game in High River and linemate Talus Hume is only two points behind and closing in on second place Jonny Pictin. Meanwhile ace defenceman Austin Keller is just one game away from having dressed for 200 Gens games and Talus Hume is a distant second with 173 games.

Game in, game out, Ransom, 21, has been an impact player for the Gens since joining the club full-time for the 2014-15 season. In 123 games, he's scored 83 goals and 150 assists, an impressive average of 1.89 points per game. With 22 goals so far this season and 10 regular games remaining, he's on track to beat his own single-season high of 26 goals.

Like Keller and Hume, Ransom is in his last season with the Gens and is proud of hitting the landmark.

"It's definitely exciting," says Ransom. "It's not something I was too focused on, but it's nice to have some success with the boys in whatever way it comes."

No matter what line, Ransom adds offensive punch.  For the first time, he's been paired with Talus Hume who set a landmark of his own recently by surpassing the 100 goal mark and is now second in all-time goals with 106. The club record is held by Pictin with 120 goals in four seasons.

The pairing could make it an interesting finish to their careers and make for a little friendly competition. Ransom concurs.

"Yeah, definitely, especially now that we are on the same line this year," says Ransom. "There is some friendly competition brewing for sure. Still, the focus is on the team's success, but it doesn't hurt to have an extra motivator."

Ransom topped Heritage Junior Hockey League scoring last season with 92 points, 25 goals and 67 assists.

Ransom has played most of his hockey in his hometown and played with the AC Avalanche midget AAA team before finishing his minor hockey with the Bow Valley Timberwolves and joining the Gens.

The three have played major roles in returning the club to its status a major contender in the league and in Alberta junior 'B'. After missing the Heritage Junior Hockey League (HJHL) playoffs in the 2013-14 season, they lost the south semifinals to the Okotoks Bisons the next season. They have won the south division championships for the last two seasons. They lost the league championship both of those years but won silver in the provincial championship last year against Wainwright.

All three will be suiting up for the Jan. 7th HJHL all-star game in Okotoks, but not before Keller skates in his 200th game here in Cochrane on Jan. 5 against the Coaldale Copperheads and game #201 against Medicine Hat the following night, also at Totem One.

Head coach Derek Donald is new to the Cochrane General's organization this season but has been paying close attention to milestones being set by his players. He notes there is some information missing from the past and welcomes other previous players to help document other career stats the club has not been able to accumulate or verify.
