In accordance with the added restrictions announced by the Kenny government yesterday (December 8, 2020) The Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre (SLSFSC) is once again preparing to temporarily close their doors.

CEO of SLS Family Sports Centre, Blair Felesky says that the facility shutting down all operations for the second time this year will have a large impact on the organization as well as the people who rely on its services.

"It has a great impact on our organization just like any other small business or organization," says Felesky. "In particular I think on our users and their physical well being it has a great impact as well."

The sports centre has been operating with tight restrictions in place for several months now. They pressed the pause button on all group and aquatic fitness classes when the province declared a state of public health emergency on November 24, however, many activities have been able to continue with COVID-19 protocols in place.

Felesky says that those activities will continue until the close of business this coming Saturday, December 12.

"Everything will be as normal as can be right now," says Felesky. "We're obviously operating under restrictions currently but we'll operate until Saturday evening at 8 pm under the same guidelines we're using currently."

For the safety of the community and staff members, activities will still need to be booked in advance, with the exceptions of the track and fitness centre. Private swim classes and personal training will also continue until the end of the day on Saturday.

Felesky says that they will be using the day to further assess the changes and the impacts on staff, tenants and users.

"We're going to go through the day just continuing to assess the conditions and providing some guidance and courtesy to our team members and partners at the facility," says Felesky.

Members are able to suspend their membership for the duration of the facility closure, however, Felesky asks for patience as the SLS Family Sports Centre team navigate their next steps.
