The addition of a girls only hockey league is proving to be a huge success.

With no shortage of girls wanting to play, the exciting news for the younger girls is they are competing against other all girl teams.

Lorne Bremner, Coach for Peewee Female Minor Hockey, says the Association's House Director has been working hard.

"She is succeeding, we've got lots of exhibition games lined up with girls teams from around the area, as the season started they were having a rough time playing against the boys because it is a little bit higher level of competition."

Bremner says the smiles and competitive nature comes out when the girls are playing against other girls.

"For example, last week both the atom and novice girls had a chance to play against other girl teams, and even though the atom girls got punched in the mouth a little bit, we knew they had a rough year ahead of them, they still did pretty good."

As far as coaching goes, Bremner adds, they had no problem filling the positions.

"We ended up with amazing coaches this year, we had a lot of guys put their hands up; the one thing we would love to see is more female coaches, but that being said I think every team from peewee under has an assistant coach that is a female."

Bremner adds it is important, especially for the younger girls to have female coaches they can look up to.

"That is big for us and something we are trying to nurture going forward, it would be great if one day we had all female coaches coaching our teams."

A lot of cross promotion will also happen with the Chaos throughout the season, and Bremner hopes to not only have the Chaos out to practice with the younger girls, but promote cheering female hockey on, on all levels.
