Lives with Less Plastic are holding their second garage cleanup of The Quarry this coming Sunday, Aug. 16.

Participants will be meeting in the parking lot of the Cochrane Movie House at 3 p.m. to cover additional sections of the Quarry commercial district

Jade Janzen, of Lives with Less Plastics, says this one is being held on the weekend to make it easier for people to participate.

They divided the Quarry into sections in preparing for their first cleanup.

"This time we're going to split up some of the sections we didn't get done and go from there," she says.

They ask participants to bring reuseable garden clubs, wear masks, bring a bag, preferably reuseable like an old pillow case, and hand santizer.

About 12 people participated in their first outing on June 17. Footage was shot at that cleanup for a documentary on recycling in Alberta.

Plastic Less August continues

We're 11 days into another project of the grassroots organization.

They've declared August "plastic less" and have prepared a calendar with daily ways to reduce your carbon footprint. Most challenges are easy to incorporate into everyday life.

Janzen says the challenge has been well received and widely shared. She says it's not too late to participate.

"Even if people don't do the full August challenge, they're still reducing their environmental footprint. So any good step in that direction is a great thing for people to do."
