Twice last week an ad hoc group of Cochrane residents gave out coffee and doughnuts to express appreciation to those providing essential services in the community.

In all, they distributed the treats to a total of 23 businesses and first responders, while following physical distancing protocol. In some cases, gift cards were provided.

Singh "Paul" Palwinde says they'll be out again sometime this week, and will continue as long as donated funds allows.

"It's amazing to see how appreciative the people are," says Palwinder. "I'd like to thank all those who chipped in to help bring this idea to life."

"At a few of the places, you could see the tears in the eyes of some of the people."

Every penny donated will be used to continue to spread goodwill towards these workers, he says.

No donation is too small, he says. What matters most is letting these people know they are appreciated.

"Hopefully, we'll get some more donations, so there's more to go around."
