A little recreational soccer just may hit the spot this summer.

Registration is currently open for men's and women's recreational soccer being offered by the Cochrane Rangers Soccer Club (CRSC).

CRSC administrator Kat Dennis says people are anxious to return to the pitch.

"Registration has been going really well. I think people are getting tired of just sitting at home. They want to get off the couch and on to the field. We're all eager and excited about it."

Exactly how many teams will be formed depends upon the response. Getting out and enjoying the recreational form of the game, though, is the top priority, and teams will include a mixture of skill levels.

"We're always welcoming new players. Any skill level can join, so if you're new to soccer or have played a few years, we're open to all of it."

The price is reasonable, too. It's just $130 (plus GST) for a season that stretches from July 7 to Sept. 30.

At this point, there are no rep teams or play in the Calgary United Soccer League.

"We wanted to keep it in Cochrane. That's why we opened our rec program because we didn't feel the need to go into Calgary and travel. We want to keep our risk as minimal as possible."

They are following the return to play strategy established by Soccer Alberta in consultation with Alberta Health officials.

While registration closes on Friday. Dennis says they will accept them afterward.

People can still sign up after Friday, but we needed to have a date so that we can see what the format looks like and if we need multiple nights or multiple times because we have to keep within that cohort of 50."
