If you plan on hitting the slopes this winter, you'll need need to bring more than your winter gear with you.

Many of the nearby ski resorts are jumping on board with the Restrictions Exemption Program (REP), and some have taken it one step further.

On Monday, Resorts of the Canadian Rockies (RCR) announced that anyone over the age of 12 is required to show their proof of vaccination to access all chair lifts and indoor facilities at their resorts this winter.

Under most circumstances, a negative COVID test taken within 72 hours would be accepted in the REP; however, RCR isn't providing that option.

Here in Alberta, this includes Nakiska in Kananaskis and the nearby sister resorts affected in B.C. are Fernie, Kimberley and Kicking Horse.

In Banff, both Sunshine Village and Mount Norquay will accept either a proof of vaccination or a negative COVID test. Lake Louise and Calgary's WinSport are also providing the option for users.

The resorts are all recommending that vaccinated season pass holders attach their record to their ski pass so it's visible when the pass is scanned.

Last year, local resorts were operating under reduced capacity and users had to book their slots in advance. The amped-up measures this year will allow them to operate at full capacity.

Skiiers and snowboarders under the age of 12 can continue to ride as usual.
