Motorists travelling Hwy. 1 through the Stoney Nakoda Nation shouldn't be alarmed to see a little smoke continuing to rise from the surrounding area.

The Alberta Wildfire prescribed burn of the area continues until early next week, explains Erin Davidson, community relations specialist for Alberta Wildfire.

The goal is to reduce wildfire risk on both Stoney Nakoda and Canadian Pacific lands.

They've got rid of multiple hectares of potential fuel for a wildfire so far, with the help of the Nation's firefighters.

Davidson says the burn is expected to last until next Tuesday.

A target number of hectares hasn't been set, says Davidson.
