A local paintball and airsoft organization is supporting families dealing with cancer.

Capture the Flag Paintball and Airsoft Cochrane will host its 3rd annual Shooting For A Cause fundraiser July 31, in support of the not for profit organization Helping Families Handle Cancer.

Rick Pearson, Lead Gunsmith at Capture the Flag, says he was inspired to create the event because so many families have been touched by cancer.

"Basically everybody has a relative that they've dealt with cancer, with me included," he says. "Unfortunately right now, one of my family members, who's just eight years old, was diagnosed with leukemia. It definitely hits close to home for me, when I first created the event, I just wanted to use paintball to do something for a really great cause."

The event raises around $4,000 a year on average for Helping Families Handle Cancer, which provides monetary support for families who have children with cancer, that can't afford their daily life due to the circumstances.

Last year donations from the event helped a family in need pay off their mortgage for a few months.

Pearson adds he is hopeful many people will come to support the large scenario paintball event, which incorporates hundreds of players separated into two teams.

"The more the merrier players wise, if there's businesses or anything that would be willing to help us raise for the cause we'd be more than happy to advertise for them."
