The Emergency Command Centre (ECC) opened yesterday for a mock emergency exercise being staged in Cochrane, and soon we'll see a growing presence of Search and Rescue (SAR) personnel in the community.

SAR members will be conducting door knocks in some neighbourhoods to simulate evacuation notices. They will be providing a pamphlet with information on the exercise on one side and valuable tips on how to be prepared for a disaster on the other. They will not be asking for any personal information from any resident. No door knocks will be conducted before 9:30 a.m.

The large-scale scenario will see about 200 SAR members from across Alberta in town to take part in an exercise in partnership with the Town of Cochrane’s emergency management staff.

The town's ECC in the Cochrane RancheHouse is being utilized as the command post.
