Cochrane Pickleballers are closing in on the halfway mark of a goal to collect 100 boxes of food for the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank.

Avid pickeballer Bill Cooper says they've now filled 49 boxes for the food bank and believes that will soon be 50.

Cooper is hoping to climb that number further before closing it down in a few weeks.

He says he came up with the idea out of the blue, says Cooper.

"I thought we have people coming and going all the time, and if we could help some folks at the food bank, I think it would be a good thing for pickleballers in Cochrane to show that they can do something for their community."

He hopes to start earlier next season, and reach out to other pickeball communities to have a little competition to see who can collect the most.

"You know, we set a goal of something and both try to beat it," he says. "It helps our community, and it helps their community."
