Centennial Park playground is getting an upgrade to ensure every Cochrane child can play.

Construction began today (May,16,2022) on the east portion of the playground area. The area will be temporarily closed as new accessible and diverse equipment is installed and the area surface is replaced.

The Town of Cochrane has partnered with Variety of Alberta Children’s Charity for this project. Variety Alberta and local charities raised funds to continue this playground's legacy of being a unique place of play for anyone.

“This is such an incredible opportunity for the community to provide more inclusive spaces that everyone can enjoy together,” says Mitchell Hamm, Director of Community Services, Town of Cochrane. "We are so thrilled to be able to create a more inclusive and diverse community and support initiatives like this."

This is the second partnership with Variety Alberta, the first was in 2018 when the other section of Centennial Park playground was updated with up-to-date accessible equipment. The previously updated area will remain open throughout construction.

As construction of the new park continues, the Town Of Cochrane will be donating the previous playground structure to the Emmanual Foundation. The not-for-profit organization will ensure the equipment will find a new home in developing countries in need of play structures.
