Maverick Law believes it's important to support our veterans.

For the past few years, they have staged a low-key campaign in support of the Cochrane branch of the Royal Canadian Legion. This year, it was expanded to include the Turner Valley branch.

As a result, $100 was donated to both branches.

Dave Ryan, of Maverick Law, full well knows the sacrifices made by our veterans. His grandfather was killed in the Second World War, and his dad served with the Royal Canadian Air Force.

While attending Remembrance Day services with his young children, he realized it's more important than ever to support our veterans.

"There are fewer veterans around, and I was concerned about remembering the things that the veterans did to give us the quality of life we now enjoy. We wanted to try and chip in where we could."

Maverick Law's Cochrane office is physically attached to the local Legion, and he tried to casually slip by to present the donations.

Instead, the Legions wanted to add a formal touch to the presentation, and also explained how the funds will be used.

"We don't do it for the accolades, but it's nice to hear that it is being put to good use," says Ryan.

The law firm hopes to continue the practice in the future.

"We're acutely aware of the freedom that we have that were fought for and won by the veterans, and continue to be. If you look at what's happening in the world right now, we can't forget that those folks are out there working on our behalf."
